How it Works

After drying, HOLDCHEM Holdcoat creates a thin, non-sticky film on cargo hold surfaces. This film facilitates cleaning before loading the next cargo in two important ways:

  1. The film fills minute pores in the surface, preventing small particles from becoming trapped in these pores.
  2. Small, solid particles can be challenging to remove, especially from organic coatings, even with effective cleaning agents and high-pressure water jets. This difficulty is due to the buildup of electromagnetic forces, and in some cases, scrubbing is the only way to remove such particles. HOLDCHEM Holdcoat forms a barrier between the particles and the surface, minimizing this issue, allowing particles to be removed with high-pressure water alone. The film is completely water-soluble and is easy to remove, even with cold sea water.

To prevent redeposition of contaminants, a mild cleaning agent should be used at lower dosage rates than typically required. Additionally, HOLDCHEM Holdcoat can be sprayed on the deck, superstructure, and other areas exposed to dust during loading and unloading operations.

Directions for Use and Dose Rates

The cargo hold surfaces should be as clean and dry as possible before treatment. HOLDCHEM Holdcoat is supplied in a ready-to-use concentration and can be applied directly from the drum or diluted with water in a 1:1 ratio. Apply the liquid to the cargo hold surfaces using suitable low-pressure spraying equipment. As soon as the surface appears wet, a proper film is created; avoid applying more than necessary.

Coverage: 1 liter of HOLDCHEM Holdcoat will cover approximately 15 to 20 m². Allow the film to dry completely before loading the cargo. Depending on air temperature and humidity, drying will take 1 to 2 hours.

After unloading, apply a 2-5% solution of a cleaning agent in water to prevent redeposition of contaminants, then flush with clean, high-pressure water.
